BACKGROUND: Mirin’s full story @ GBF Wiki!

PERSONALITY:
Imagine you had a pair of a weeaboo man and a weeaboo woman who were extremely deep in their obsessions that they sacrificed anything to go to the Fantasy Japan of the Granblue canon and then fucked like rabbit and they gave birth to a child. Lo and behold, that child would be Mirin.

Apples certainly don’t fall far from its tree. Mirin (lit. rice wine sake - Yes, thanks for the weirdass name, mom and dad!!!) really inherits what her parents really wish her to be: the extreme love for Eastern culture, although thankfully it isn’t the creepy one like otaku culture and stuff and instead, it’s the old, Eastern culture that is mainly bushido or samurai culture. A single glance and you can definitely tell her love for it, Mirin practically applies and practices everything from it: She always wears anything Eastern related like kimono or hakama, she prefers to wield a katana instead of a sword or any other weapon, but the most obvious one is her way of speaking - Mirin speaks in the old Japanese style, preferring to call herself in either third person or with sessha when everyone else would speak with boku, watashi, or even ore. You also can’t forget she has this weird tendency to end every single lines of hers with GOZARU! which… doesn’t really have any actual meaning and just a verbal tic and doesn’t add anything to conversation but hey, it hurts no one, right?

When the party first meet Mirin, she’s introduced as a someone who’s new to the skydom and it encapsulates everything about her as well. In her core, Mirin fits the stereotype of a ‘rookie adventurer’ to a T: She’s cheerful about her newfound journey, full of curiosity, and even a little bit of innocent. Actually I kid, I can’t stress enough on how innocent this little ball of sunshine is. But that goodness in her, that want and core part of herself is what drives her to do everything she can to help people. She's utterly sincere in everything she does and loves helping people, to the point she would throw away her original intention of testing her mettle in a competition (her favorite stuff, gozaru!) to jump to take care of thieves in her crossfate episode with Yodarha. To Mirin, other people weights way more compared to herself.

That innocence of this nerd isn’t all sunshine and rainbows though. With such innocence, comes along what you would call as a blatant naivety. Mirin is really easily distracted, if not tricked, period. She’s also really straightforward about things that she doesn’t really share the same point of view with which caused her troubles in the past. In fact, three minutes to her introduction, the party found out that she was getting scammed by a merchant who sold her an old guidebook instead of the newest one. Mirin is also pretty easy to be impressed, especially by some stuff that she has never seen. This is really obvious whenever she’s interacting with someone that catch her interest (e.g. someone who shares the same interest or just really COOL and ikemen in general like Sevilbarra or Yodarha), Mirin would squeal in excitement and probably even follow them like a lost puppy. You can argue that despite her dedication to the way of samurai, Mirin is always trying to be as cool as others and earn a style point for herself alongside them that is shown in her victory animation that involve her throwing her sheathed katana to the air and catching it, which doesn’t… really work at times.

All in all, Mirin is a young skyfarer who will fight for her own sake as well as the others as long as they don’t stray from the path of bushido to her best. She might be shown as a careless girl and perhaps even a hindrance to some, but give her some push and she’ll prove that she isn’t really just a samurai in name, gozaru!

POWERS/ABILITIES:

Mirin's abilities @ GBF Wiki

Despite how useful Mirin actually is in the actual game, she’s what you would call a ‘rough diamond’ lore-wise. Her swordsmanship is still pretty mediocre at best (especially compared to bunch of broken characters in the game’s lore) but Sevilbarra and Yoda both have said that her potential as a samurai has pretty high ceiling so it’s really just up to Mirin herself to polish her skill.

Alongside of that, she’s also pretty knowledgeable in Eastern stuff like haikus or even Obon festivals, if that helps. With a big emphasis of only being knowledgeable because for some reason she can’t even write her name in hiragana. For Bahamut’s sake this girl is a blessed mess.

INVENTORY:
- Kimono #1 (Her wind SR kimono)
- Kimono #2 (Her light SR kimono)
- Katana #1 (That her parents bought her with all their rupees)
- Katana #2 (Which have the most convincing (read:useless) description of all times)
- A handful of sarashi.
- Japanese ink brush without the ink part so it's actually just a brush.

MOONBLESSING:
Cordis.
